What Are MY Values?

What are values?  We all have them.  Some are big, some are small, and some are even unknown.  A value is something that you hold important to you.

That's cool, but how do our values influence our personality, behavior, etc.?  Everything we do is our behaviors.  Our behaviors reflect our values.  The video below explains the influence and importance of values.

The values we have are the driving factors on why and how we've got to where we are.  How we go about making choices is driven by our values.

One of my favorite quotes is from Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets where Headmaster Dumbledore is reassuring young Harry Potter that he made the right choice of what Hogwarts house to be in and that his choices had proven to be Gryffindor values.  Harry tells Dumbledore that he and Tom Riddle (aka Voldemort) have a lot of similarities.  Dumbledore says this:

"IT IS NOT OUR ABILITIES THAT SHOW WHO WE TRULY ARE, IT IS OUR CHOICES"

As individuals on the autism spectrum and with ADHD, it is important that we figure out what are values are.

If you went to the grocery store to get some party supplies and groceries with some friends.  You walk out and realize that you didn't pay for one of your groceries.  Your friends tell you that "it's okay.  You basically got that for free."   What would you do?  Well, if your values are being a good and honest person, you're likely to tell your friends that it isn't the honest thing to do.

Our values influence our choices and our behaviors.  As people with invisible disabilities, it is our duty to be aware of what our values are and make sure they align with our beliefs.

Below is the choice point.
