Shootings in America: A Close-to-Home Experience

 September 10th, 2025

I am writing this after a HORRIBLE assassination of political figure, Charlie Kirk.  Where did this happen?! This mess happened where I graduated from college and go to for music classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

I'm sick.  I'm mortified!

I'm processing this as if I was there...I wasn't.  I wish I didn't have to write about something like this happening, but something has got to change!

What does this have to do with being neurodiverse?  Processing the events!  I know that grief comes differently for everyone.  ESPECIALLY second-hand grief.  Like I said, I wasn't there, but that doesn't mean I don't feel guilty for not being there and being able to help others or I don't feel scared for my safety.  This happened at a place where I've grown a love for learning, psychology, writing, etc.  Utah Valley University gave me my friends, my purpose to advocate, and my degree.  Now, thanks to some selfish person who we don't know shot Mr. Kirk, I can't feel safe there anymore.  I have no other words.

Was the purpose right?  NO! No person, no matter how cruel they are deserves to be killed the way Charlie was.

I am processing this event the way I feel like I should.  I'm mourning and empathizing the shock and grief of those who experienced this today.  No one should have to experience what happened today.

My heart goes to the state of Utah and the people who were affected by this horrendous attack.

Please don't hesitate to reach out to your loved ones and tell them you love them.  It's times like these where we need to unite together.  Let's put politics aside!

Here are some songs that come to mind when this stuff happens.
